BRITISH ASSOCIATION OF COMPARATIVE LAW POSTGRADUATE WORKSHOP

20-21 May 2025, Liverpool John Moores University (LJMU)

Call for Papers

The Centre for the study of Law in Theory and Practice (LTAP) at LJMU School of Law is pleased to host the 2025 British Association of Comparative Law (BACL) annual postgraduate workshop. This workshop – which will be held in the afternoon of 20 May and the morning of 21 May – is open to PhD candidates at any stage of their research, from any country, who work on any aspect of Comparative Law.

The workshop will provide participants with the opportunity to present work in progress, receive feedback on their work from established comparative scholars and engage in networking activities, including a workshop dinner in the evening of Tuesday 20 May. We are very pleased to announce that our keynote speaker will be Professor Jen Hendry (Chinese University of Hong Kong).

Papers are welcome in any area of law, and using any methodology or approach, but papers must have a clear comparative focus.

Any PhD candidate wishing to present a paper at the workshop should submit a title and abstract (of 250 words) and a CV to Dr Mary Guy, Secretary of BACL, at britassoccomplaw@gmail.com. Please include “[your name] – BACL postgraduate workshop abstract” as the subject line for the email.

The deadline for submissions has been extended to Monday 30 March 2025, and selection outcomes will be notified as soon as possible afterwards. A workshop programme, and registration information for presenters and other attendees, will be released shortly thereafter.

The registration fee will be: £35 (for those with affiliation at BACL-member institutions); £45 (all others). For more information about previous BACL postgraduate workshops see here.
